About Naples
Located in southern Italy, Naples is one of the most ancient cities in Europe, and its current urban fabric preserves a variety of outstanding elements of its long and eventful history. You can see this in its street pattern, in its wealth of historic buildings and parks, in its wonderful setting on the Bay of Naples, as well as the unique way in which the city has been built throughout the centuries: by continuously building on top of what was already there. A the entirety of the historic center of Naples, approximately 1,021 hectares, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Naples has a unique and vibrant cultural makeup, with influences stemming from its Greek origins that predate even the Romans, as well as its history as a port city.
To get a real feel for the city, Naples can be discovered through its public transportation system, which includes city buses, funicular lines, regional buses, the 1, 2 and 6 Metro Lines, as well as the , Circumvesuviana, Circumflegrea and Cumana train lines. You mustn’t miss “Toledo” metro station, considered the jewel in the crown of the “Art Stations” of Naples’ Metro stations. It is located on the iconic Via Toledo, in the city’s Spanish Quarter. The dazzling Toledo underground station was even nominated as the most beautiful public transport station in Europe by the BBC.
